A Fesival celebrating the birth of Krishna takes place at all the important shrines dedicated to him. Krishna Astami also known as Krishna Jayanti or Sri Krishna Janmastami is not only celebrated in Nepal but also in India, its neighboring country. The Hindu community in Nepal celebrates this festival with lot of fanfare. Devotees of Lord Krishna observe fast, consuming only fruits and milk products.In particular, at the Krisna Mandir Temple in Patan, there is a beautiful festival in the evening when women and girls make offering of special flowers and sing challenging love duets with their male admirers-a kind of romantic banter.
